65-Year-Old Woman Charged In Killing Of Son, Infant Grandchild To Get Mental Exam
PONTIAC (WWJ) - An Oakland County woman accused of killing her son and infant granddaughter will undergo a mental exam to determine whether she's competent to stand trial.
Sylvia Majewska, 65, of Addison Township faces two counts of first-degree murder in the killings which occurred last month
Her son, Daryne Gailey, and his seven-month old daughter, Charley Hendrick, were found dead in his Oxford Township home on Nov. 23, after Gailey failed to return the child to her mother as scheduled. The man's throat was cut, according to authorities, and the baby had been beaten to death.
When Oakland County Sheriff's deputies arrived, they found Majewska sitting on the couch, bloodied by knife wounds to her arms which authorities believe were self-inflicted.
According to Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard Majewska apparently "came to the conclusion that the son and the child would be better off if they weren't alive."
"Now that the totality of the evidence has been found and gone over and collated, it looks like this was a long-term plan for her, that this was — for whatever reason in her mind — the best outcome from the situation," Bouchard said.
Majewska is due back in court in early March.
