65-Year-Old Man Charged With Assaulting Juvenile At Mosque

CANTON (WWJ) - A 65-year-old man is facing charges after he allegedly assaulted a juvenile at a mosque, according to police.

Hobibur Rahman, of Hamtramck, surrendered to Canton police after an investigation was launched into the incident, which occurred August 10 at the Masjid Bilal mosque on N. Ridge Road.

Details about the alleged assault, including information about the victim, were not released. Police told the Canton Observer the incident is not being classified as a hate crime, as no racial issues were involved.

Rahman was arraigned in 35th District Court on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon (a 4-year felony) and aggravated assault (a 1-year misdemeanor). He was given a $10,000 personal bond with a probable cause conference set for August 26.
