60 Mile Walk For The Cure Raises Millions For Cancer Research

DEARBORN (WWJ) - Hundreds of men and women crossed the finish line in Dearborn Sunday as part of their 3-day 60 mile walk to fight breast cancer.

The Komen Michigan 3-Day walkers made their way through Dearborn Heights and Dearborn. It was walk number four for Tonya Schiaudone, who flew in from Boston with her daughter for the event.

"It's ... an emotional event - just celebrating everything we have done - seeing how much this event has raised ... so that we can move on and hopefully, give it to researchers," said Schiaudone.

It's walk number eleven for Nino Mericola.

"It's a euphoria, when you cross that finish line - there's nothing like it, it's just the greatest feeling so that's why I do it and I"m going to continue to do it until I can't," said Mericola.

The 2014 walk raised $2.4 million to fight breast cancer.

The Susan G. Komen 3-Day will return to Michigan August 7-9, 2015.

Registration for that event opens on Tuesday, August 19 at www.The3Day.org  or call 800-996-3DAY for more information.
