6-10 Inches Of Snow Possible When Winter Storm Hits Metro Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - A big winter storm on its way could dump as much as six to 10 inches of snow on Metro Detroit.

The National Weather Service has posted a Winter Storm Watch for all of Southeast Michigan, in effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday through 4 p.m. on Thursday, with snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches possible by Thursday afternoon.

The watch covers Lenawee, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw and Wayne counties.

WWJ AccuWeather Meteorologist Dave Bowers said it will all start with some rain on a warmer Wednesday afternoon before it turns to snow as it cools down Wednesday.

"This time of year and through the month of March, you can get these swings from very nice, springlike weather to something that you would normally find back in January," Bowers said.

The storm, coming up out of the deep south, could mean trouble on the roads as early as Wednesday evening.

"There will be some northeast winds associated with this storm — so, if we do get into the snow part of it, there could be some blowing and drifting snow, which could make travel hazardous," NWS Meteorologist Deb Elliot said.

It should be noted that snow removal could be tough since the snow is expected to be wet and heavy.
