51-Year-Old Man Accused Of Stalking Former Teacher To Get Mental Exam

UNADILLA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - A 51-year-old man accused of making harassing phone calls to a Livingston County woman who was his sixth-grade teacher will undergo a psychological exam.

Steven Kremski's attorney asked the court Monday to refer him to the state's Center for Forensic Psychiatry for a competency exam, according to The Livingston Daily Press & Argus. The judge agreed.

Kremski is charged with stalking and malicious use of a telecommunications device. The charging document says Kremseki repeatedly harassed his former teacher between 2011 and the day of his arrest earlier this year by making the phone calls.

According to court records, Kremski is jailed on a $100,000 cash or surety bond and will remain in jail before the exam.

When the calls started, the now-81-year-old woman told police no one spoke on the other line; she could only hear heavy breathing. Over time, the calls "became more frightening" and increased in number. In one instance, Kremski allegedly told the woman that he located the graves of her relatives. She noted, however, that the phone calls were never threatening in nature.

Police say Kremski was "obsessed" with his former teacher and the calls were designed to terrorize, frighten or annoy her.

The teacher told the newspaper that the kindness she showed Kremski as a child might have led to his fixation.

"I took the time to care enough to notice (him) and help, and I doubt there were many people in his life who did that," she said.
