5 Metro Detroiters Arrested In Wisconsin Jewelry Heist Suspected In Similar Robberies Across Midwest

DETROIT (WWJ) - The government says five people from the Detroit-area arrested in connection with a jewelry store heist in Wisconsin could be responsible for several similar robberies throughout the Midwest over the past year.

Federal authorities say the group -- four men and one woman -- were armed with hammers as they barged into Husar's House of Fine Diamonds near Milwaukee last December and smashed numerous display cases. The crooks fled in a stolen minivan with several expensive watches.

The crime in Wisconsin was one of several related robberies of jewelry stores throughout the United States, according to investigators. For nearly a year, the West Bend Police Department, FBI agents from the Milwaukee and Detroit offices, and the U.S. Attorney's Office have been working on the case..

On Tuesday, Grand Jury in the U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Wisconsin indicted the five suspects:

• 28-year old Charles Hall
• 24-year old Trayvon Shelton
• 23-year old Gawain Mandeville-Nelson II
• 23-year old Deangelo Hayes
• 21-year old Aliya Rahman

All five suspects are presently in federal custody in the State of Michigan. Police are continuing to work with the FBI and the U.S. Attorney's Office to identify additional suspects.
