5 Detroit Students Taken To Hospital After Taking Pills At School

DETROIT (WWJ) - Nearly half a dozen Detroit Public Schools students caused a panic, Thursday, when they were caught taking prescription pills.

District officials said a total of five students — three girls and two boy, all 11 or 12 years old — at Noble Elementary Middle on Detroit's west side, near the Jefferies and Grand River, were transported to a hospital for observation  after one student brought prescription medication to class and distributed it to other students.

The pills were confiscated. Spokesperson Jennifer Mrozowski said the district said it is taking this matter very seriously and will discipline all students found to be in violation of the Code of Conduct.

Meantime, school social workers will set up an assembly with students to talk about prescription pills and taking other drugs that can cause serious medical issues.

The district did not immediately provide any information about the students' conditions, they were all expected to be OK according to reports.
