5 Arrested In 'Major Drug Cartel' Raid In Warren
WARREN (WWJ) - Five people were arrested in Warren and Detroit in what officials are calling a "major drug cartel" raid last week.
Warren police, working with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, issued seven search warrants ahead of the June 7 raid, which was part of a citywide crackdown on drug houses in Warren.
"Drug pushers are learning very fast that we have zero tolerance for drug houses," said Warren Mayor Fouts, in a media release Thursday.
The mayor praised Warren police, DEA agents and other law enforcement personnel from nearby cities who worked together on the case.
"Fighting illegal drugs takes teamwork and coordination," Fouts said.
The five in custody in connection with the raids are Demarco Tempo, Haratio Heard, Greg Howard, Dennis Jones and Amacio Alexander.
Tempo, Heard, and Howard were charged in an indictment returned on June 7 and unsealed June 14, according to the city of Warren. Jones and Alexander were charged in a complaint filed June 14.
Howard, Jones and Alexander have been released on bond, while Tempo and Heard have detention hearings scheduled for June 17.
An investigation is ongoing.
Fouts, in his State of the City address in April, called for a crackdown on illegal drug houses in Michigan's third most populus city.
