4-Year-Old Boy Dies Days After Being Pulled From Swimming Pool

HOLLY (WWJ) - Authorities say a 4-year-old boy who was pulled from a swimming pool in northern Oakland County earlier this week has died.

The boy was brought back to life by emergency room workers at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac on Tuesday after his mother pulled him out of the deep end of the pool at the home on Belmont Court, near Holly.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said the incident unfolded after a group of adults finished their water aerobics class at the home pool and the children were swimming in the shallow end of the pool. The boy had exited the pool, removed his life-jacket and told his mother he was done swimming for the day, police said. A few minutes later, he was found in the deep end.

His mother immediately jumped into the pool and pulled him from the water. The homeowner, who is also an emergency room nurse, began doing CPR and a bystander called 911 for help. The boy was rushed to the Pontiac hospital before being airlifted in critical condition to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital, where he died Thursday afternoon.

Police have not yet released his name. Investigators say an autopsy is expected to be performed Friday to determine a cause of death.
