4 Killed In Fiery Crash On I-96

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police say four people were killed when their car crashed on I-96 in Detroit and burst into flames.

The accident happened just before 11 p.m. Tuesday on eastbound I-96 near Wyoming Avenue, on the city's west side.

Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw said the vehicle left the roadway, struck a bridge and almost immediately erupted in flames. Other circumstances weren't immediately clear.

All four people inside the car were killed. Shaw said the victims' identities are not yet known.

The freeway was closed for several hours while police investigated, but has since reopened.

The crash remains under investigation.
