4 Arrested In String Of ATM Robberies In 8 Communities

DETROIT (WWJ) - Four people have been arrested in connection with a series of ATM robberies in metro Detroit stretching back two years.

ATMs in at least eight communities were targeted — mostly in Wayne County.  The robberies strung Canton, Dearborn, Detroit, Hamtramck, Inkster, Melvindale, Southfield and Oak Park and began to intensify in November of last years, police said.

In many cases, the criminals would smash their way through the front doors of local businesses, according to police.

Two of the suspects were arrested last month. Then, Thursday morning, two others were arrested with the help of a task force and the Southfield police SWAT team.

"Police believe that more arrests are still to come and will not stop until they have apprehended all those responsible for these robberies," police said in a media release.

The name's of those in custody were not immediately released.

Anyone with information about these crimes is asked to call Detroit police at 313-596-1420 or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 1-800-SPEAK UP.  Tipsters may also download the app "DPD Connect" and leave a tip in the tip section.
