300 Graduate From Detroit Rescue Mission's Life-Betterment Program
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Three hundred people have graduated from a life-betterment program from the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries.
Those who graduated Friday afternoon went through programs in which they received job training, housing and detox treatment, according to The Detroit News. Two people were surprised with cars for outstanding program achievement, including Lakita Terrell, who received a 1996 Lincoln Town Car.
Terrell said the skills she learned at the rescue mission helped her "to grow up," and that she has "become a better woman" for herself and her children.
The rescue mission was founded in 1909, and it gives out more than 4,000 meals daily and serves 2,200 people in facilities in Detroit and Highland Park.
