1. The situation at placekicker remains iffy. Rookie seventh-round draft pick Nate Freese seems to have the lead. His 55-yard field goal last week at Oakland, off the dirt of the infield, was very impressive, but he's also missed an extra point. How consistent is Freese? It wasn't a problem at Boston College.

2. Can rookie Kyle Van Noy, the Lions' second-round draft choice, win a starting linebacker spot with a big performance? He was impressive both rushing the passer and dropping into coverage at Oakland.

3. The Lions' passing attack has been impressive so far, but it really should come together with Calvin Johnson added to the equation, after he sat out the first two preseason games.
