3 Days Tacked On To Tax Filing Deadline But Has It Helped?

DETROIT (WWJ) - This is it. The final day to file your tax returns. The extra three days tacked on to the traditional April 15th deadline didn't help everyone.

Did the extra days help the effort to get your taxes completed? WWJ's Ron Dewey asked one procrastinator.

"No, on the twentieth we'd still be late."

Lyle Smith, whose wife normally does the taxes, was getting an extension at the H & R Block office in Berkley Monday morning. He says he knows he could get the forms and even do the taxes on line, if he wanted.

"I'm not a computer person, even though I'm a retired engineer, I should love computers, but I've got other things I'd rather spend my time on," says Smith.

The extended deadline made possible by Emancipation Day, celebrated in the District of Columbia, when federal offices--including the IRS--were closed for the day.

Smith says his wife has been too busy with other spring projects to take care of the tax returns.
