3 Critically Wounded After Shooting, Crash Splits Car In Half

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police say three people are fighting for their lives after their car crashed following an apparent drive-by shooting in northwest Detroit.

The incident unfolded early Saturday morning on Schaefer Highway just south of 7 Mile Road.

Police say a 2002 Chevy Cavalier was traveling on Schaefer when someone fired shots into the vehicle. The driver lost control of the vehicle, which smashed into a utility police. Police say the collision was so severe, the vehicle was "split in half."

The three occupants, one struck by gunfire, were all rushed to the hospital and last reported in critical condition. Police say the gunshot victim is a 22-year-old woman. The other two victims are both males. Investigators aren't yet sure who was driving at the time.

No arrests have been made.

An investigation is ongoing.
