Second Bridge Over Detroit River To Canada Has A Name

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) - The soon-to-be-built second bridge over the Detroit River to Windsor has a name — but it hasn't yet been revealed.

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper will spill the beans during a trip to Windsor on Thursday at which time he'll also make an announcement about manufacturing jobs in Essex County.

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder is also expected to be on hand for the reveal.

The U.S. State Department approved the building of the bridge last year, but construction hasn't started yet. Canada is paying most of the $2 billion project's cost on both sides of the border and plans to recoup the money through tolls.

The new span will cross the river about two miles south of the existing Ambassador Bridge — from the Brighton Beach neighborhood in Windsor to the Delray neighborhood in Detroit. Officials have said they'd hoped to open the bridge in 2020 — although it now appears the opening may be delayed.

What would you name the new international bridge? Comment below.
