290,000 In Michigan Sign Up For Health Insurance Marketplace
LANSING (AP) - The federal government says more than 290,000 Michiganians have signed up for the Affordable Care Act's Health Insurance Marketplace, one day ahead of Thursday's enrollment deadline.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said Wednesday that 290,439 people had signed up by Friday. Thursday is the deadline for people to get insurance starting Feb. 1.
The government provides subsidies based on income.
Another enrollment period runs through Feb. 15 for coverage that takes effect March. 1. After that, people may have to wait until 2016 to enroll.
The federal agency says that about 6.5 million people nationwide have signed up or automatically renewed their participation in the marketplace since Nov. 15.
