21:03 Creates Contemporary Gospel Sound All Their Own

DETROIT (WWJ) - Making it in the gospel music industry can be tough, especially when you're from Detroit where many gospel greats call home.

As Newsradio 950's Stephanie Davis reports, one group has steadily climbed the ladder of success in a crowed field.

Maybe it's because of their very contemporary sound of gospel music.

Thirty-year old Evin Martin and 27-year old Torrence Green born and raised in Detroit, brought up in the church, make up the harmonizing duo group 21:03.

Their latest release entitled 'Outsiders' speaks to how they feel within the industry.

"In the gospel music industry, we've always, kind of, felt like outsiders," said Martin. "Our music is very contemporary - it's a fusion of R&B, pop (music) EDM - some traditional in there but it's very trend setting.

Gospel music roots run deep in the Motor city with famous names like the Clark Sisters, Vanessa Bell Armstrong and the Winans all hailing from Detroit.

"Everybody is from here, so all the way to 21:03, right, so you have some big shoes to fill," said Green. "At the same time, I don't believe God would have given us the opportunity if he figured it was more than we could bare."

Martin and Green have been together for 11-years.

Green says they're different. "We're an eclectic mixture - what we listen to R&B, soul, worship, hip-hop - it's all fused together.

21:03 is set to hit the road with PMG Label artist J Moss this Spring on the, 'RV: Road Trip Promo Tour.' Tour stops include, Chicago, IL; St. Louis, MO; Indianapolis, IN and Atlanta, GA.
