2014 Winter Blast At Campus Martius Gearing-Up For Big Draw

DETROIT (WWJ) - Organizers say sub-zero temperatures were just right for the roll-out for this year's Winter Blast at Campus Martius Park in Detroit.

"We picked the right day to announce the Winter Fest," joked Mayor Mike Duggan.

Duggan was on hand as officials detailed the line up and activities for this year which will include four stages of live music, cuisine, and winter activities like snow shoeing and the big snow slide is back.

"We are going to have another one-hundred thousand people come through the city of Detroit the weekend after next," said Duggan. "That follows after the eight-hundred thousand plus crowd that we just had at the auto show."

Event organizer, Jon Witz says the 3-day festival will feature live music on 4 different stages, food, and returning this year, the snow slide.

It's a celebration of winter in Detroit, embracing winter, supporting local businesses, it's checking out things you wouldn't normally see in an urban environment like a two-hundred foot snow slide and making eighteen inches of snow for dog-sledding exhibitions with Siberian Huskies."

The 10th annual Winter Blast in Detroit runs Feb 7-9.
