200 Lbs. Of 'High-Potency' Pot Seized In Sterling Heights; 4 Arrested

STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) - Four people have been arrested in Sterling Heights in connection with the smuggling of 200 pounds of "high potency" marijuana from California to Michigan.

Sterling Heights police pulled over a vehicle near 14 Mile and Van Dyke, Wednesday afternoon. Three of the four suspects were in that car — along with the cache of packaged pot, according to investigators.

Search warrants executed at other locations where more marijuana was found, resulting in the arrest of a fourth suspect, police said.

Only one of the suspects is a Michigan resident, according to police, identified as 28-year-old Saad Eddie Matti of Warren. The three others, from San Diego, are 25-year-old Delan A. Hanna, 23-year-old Ishac Zayad Zaya, and 36-year-old Michael Anthony Santos.

Police said the bust is the result of an ongoing investigation into the source of high-potency marijuana that's been making its way into Sterling Heights.

"Because of the example of hard work set by Chief John Berg of the Sterling Heights Police Department, good old fashioned
police work by the men and women of S.H.P.D was able to prevent a large quantity of illicit drugs from reaching our
neighborhoods and schools," police said in a release.

A large quantity of cash and a vehicle were also seized.

Formal charges against the four suspects are pending.
