20 Programs Get Grants To Improve Access To Healthy Food

DETROIT (AP) - Grants have been awarded to 20 programs designed to improve access to healthy food for children and senior citizens in southeastern Michigan.

The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan says the $2 million in funding is part of Healthy Food Connect.

The two-year regional initiative connects children and senior citizens to people, places, programs and services necessary to ensure they have healthy food options each day.

Funding includes $200,000 to support a program that makes surplus fresh produce easier to obtain in Washtenaw County. Another $200,000 grant is expected to improve senior citizen participation in regional food assistance programs.
