20 Oakland County Students Taken To Hospital After Bee Attack

WEST BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP (AP) - An official says 20 second-grade pupils from Oakland County have been taken to a hospital after being stung by bees during a field trip.

The Detroit News  says the students from Scotch Elementary School in West Bloomfield Township were visiting Apple Island on Thursday when they were stung. The school district uses the island as a nature preserve.

District spokeswoman Pamela Zajak says elementary students take a trip there every year. She says details of the bee attack weren't immediately available but it apparently happened on the island.

The children were taken to Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital for treatment. Nine others in the group weren't stung.
