20-Month-Old Michigan Girl Airlifted To Hospital After Pit Bull Attack

ALANSON, Mich. (AP) - Northern Michigan authorities say a pit bull-type dog attacked and caused major injuries to a 20-month-old girl in her home.

Emmet County Sheriff Pete Wallin says in a statement that the attack happened about 7:30 a.m. Thursday. The home is in Alanson, a village of about 740 people, 60 miles northeast of Traverse City.

Wallin says emergency crews took the girl to McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital, and she later was airlifted to DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids.

The sheriff says authorities put the dog in quarantine.

The Associated Press emailed the sheriff's department seeking an update on the girl's condition. The Grand Rapids Press reports she's in critical condition.
