2 Young Children Killed In Michigan Trailer Park Fire

THREE RIVERS, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say two young children have died in a fire at a mobile home in southwestern Michigan.

Three Rivers fire Chief Carl Holcomb tells reporters that the children died in the Wednesday morning fire. Their mother reportedly was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Holcomb says the home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived about 10 a.m. He says firefighters found a baby and a toddler dead in a bedroom.

The chief didn't immediately release their ages or names.

Neighbor Sheril Melchi says she tried to assist the mother. She says flames were "shooting out the front door" and there was no way to get inside.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
