2 Tornadoes Touch Down In Michigan's Upper Peninsula

REPUBLIC, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - Officials say two tornadoes damaged trees as severe storms moved across Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

No injuries were reported from Tuesday's storms.

The National Weather Service says the first tornado was detected near Republic in Marquette County around 2:30 p.m., snapping pine trees more than 12 inches in diameter.

Meteorologist Justin Titus, with the NWS in Marquette, said a second tornado was detected about 3 p.m. near Greenwood Reservoir in Marquette County, damaging trees.

"We sent a survey crew out and there's some places we can't get to, just with that being a forest area, but everything we saw was damage to trees," Titus told WWJ's Beth Fisher. "There was a trampoline [damaged] but no structural damage."

The tornadoes were considered relatively weak. Titus said schools in the area were placed on lockdown as a precaution when the tornado warning was issued.

In the coming days, thunderstorms are possible throughout the state.
