City spokesman John Roach said two firefighters were taken to a local hospital — one of them with first degree burns from a flashover. The second, he said, also suffered first degree burns and was getting an x-ray for a suspected broken leg.

Roach said none of the injuries were believed to be critical.

Several people were inside the home when the fire broke out — including Shimeka Robinson, who spoke with WWJ's Vickie Thomas at the scene.

"All I heard was my brothers and my dad yelling, and when I went to the back door, just a thing of heat — just a blaze — just hit my face; it was so strong," she said.

The fire was upgraded to a two-alarm fire as crews continued to battle the blaze.

The cause of the fire remains unknown. Arson investigators were on the scene.
