2 EMU Students Killed In Car Crash In Ypsi Township

YPSILANTI (WWJ) - Two Eastern Michigan University students are dead following a car crash in Ypsilanti Township Sunday morning.

Derrick Jackson of the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department says speed looks to have been a factor in the head-on Hewitt Road north of Michigan Avenue.

All three people involved in the accident were in their 20s.

The department is awaiting the results of a topological report to determine if the driver was under the influence.

"It's always something we check in situations like this, accidents involving death, but there is nothing to say there was or there wasn't at this point. We'll be waiting for toxicology report and more questioning with the gentleman who was driving the other vehicle as well," said Jackson.

Police say while the investigation is ongoing, it appears the student's car crossed the center lane into oncoming traffic and hit the other car head-on.

The two EMU students involved in the accident are woman's basketball player Shannise Heady and Jordan Hopkins.
