2 Developments Seek To Boost Affordable Housing In Michigan

YPSILANTI (AP) - Two new developments are seeking to increase availability of affordable housing for low- and moderate-income individuals, families and veterans in Michigan.

A groundbreaking is Wednesday in Ypsilanti for a $17.2 million, 86-unit affordable-housing community called New Parkridge that's being developed by the Ypsilanti Housing Commission and Chesapeake Community Advisors. UnitedHealthcare is investing $8 million in the project.

The development will include onsite support services to help improve residents' access to health care, education, job training and childcare. It's scheduled for completion in fall 2017.

In Holt, a $10.7 million, 66-unit affordable-housing community is under construction. Developed by Gryphon Group, it's expected to be completed by the end of the year and serve individuals, families, veterans and those with disabilities. UnitedHealthcare is investing $8.9 million in the project.
