2 Detroit Firefighters Hospitalized Following Early Morning Blaze [VIDEO]

DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities say two Detroit firefighters are hospitalized after being injured while battling an early morning fire on Detroit's west side.

The fire took off just after 4 a.m. Saturday on Wheeler Street, in a neighborhood along Warren Avenue just west of Livernois Avenue.

Arson Chief Patrick McNulty told WWJ's Laura Bonnell both firefighters were taken to Henry Ford Hospital.

"They have musculoskeletal type injuries of the legs, arms and lower back. I'm not exactly sure who suffered what, but that was the type of injury it was," he said.

Both men are expected to recover. Their names were not released.

McNulty said investigators are now trying to determine the cause of the fire, which ultimately spread to three houses.

"One of them, looks like it was deliberately set on fire and then it extended to the other two," he said.

An investigation is ongoing.
