2 Arrested After Chase Into Michigan Across Canada Border

PORT HURON (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say a man and woman were arrested after crossing the Blue Water Bridge into Michigan from Canada and leading authorities on a chase.

Customs and Border Protection spokesman Ken Hammond confirmed to WWJ's Sandra McNeil that a vehicle was heading into the U.S. at Port Huron around midnight Monday when it was referred for a secondary inspection.

The vehicle failed to stop and continued onto westbound Interstate 94.

Hammond says Customs and Border Protection, Michigan State Police, the St. Clair police department and the St. Clair County sheriff's department were involved in the chase, which ended in St. Clair when the vehicle went off the roadway.

Hammond said the vehicle was search, but wouldn't say what was found inside.

The man and woman, whose names have not been released, remain jailed pending charges. It's not clear yet what those charges will be.

No one was injured.
