19-Year-Old Mother Charged With Murdering Infant Daughter

DETROIT (WWJ) - A 19-year-old mother is facing murder and child abuse charges in the death of her infant daughter.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said Sierra Nichole Tankersley is expected to be arraigned Thursday in 36th District Court on charges in connection with the death of her 1-year-old daughter, Malayh.

Authorities responded to a 911 call from Tankersley's home in the 9600 block of Brace, near the Southfield Freeway and Chicago Avenue, around noon Sunday and allegedly found the child on the floor, unresponsive. Malayh was rushed to a local hospital where she later died, allegedly from multiple blunt force trauma.

Tankersley was immediately taken into custody. Police say she has another 2-year-old daughter, who was removed from her home the same day.

An investigation is ongoing.
