14-Year-Old Leads Police On High-Speed Chase In Stolen Car, Runs Off After Crashing [VIDEO]

MOUNT CLEMENS (WWJ) - A 14-year-old boy is facing criminal charges after leading Macomb County sheriff's deputies on a high-speed chase that ended with a dramatic rollover crash.

The incident unfolded around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday when a deputy on patrol in Mount Clemens observed a gold Toyota Camry pass through a flashing red light without stopping on Dickinson Street at Gratiot Avenue.

The deputy tried to stop the Camry, which entered a gas station parking lot on Market Street before quickly driving back out onto the road. The Camry then fled eastbound on Dickinson, going approximately 70 miles per hour through residential streets, according to police.

With a fully marked Sheriff car in pursuit, the Camry reached the end of Dickinson Street where the driver -- later identified as a 14-year-old Clinton Township boy -- failed to negotiate a turn onto Avery Street. The vehicle struck a curb and rolled over numerous times before coming to rest against Chevy Suburban that was parked in the driveway of a home. The teenage driver then fled on foot.

Additional deputies and officers from Clinton Township Police Department responded to the neighborhood and a foot-search ensued. The boy was eventually located hiding beneath a backyard pool deck and was taken into custody without further incident.

An ambulance was called to the scene and the suspect was transported to McLaren Macomb Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

Back at the station, police received a call around 6:30 a.m. from the owner of the Camry, a 36-year-old Clinton Township woman, who reported that the vehicle had been stolen from her home in the 24100 block of Grange.

The teen has since been released from the hospital and is currently being held at the Macomb County Juvenile Justice Center, where he is awaiting criminal proceedings.
