13-Year-Old Michigan Boy Charged With Murder In Baby Cousin's Beating Death

MUSKEGON, Mich. (AP) - Authorities in western Michigan have filed a murder charge against a 13-year-old boy they say fatally beat his 16-month-old cousin after the girl's mother left them home alone.

The boy is charged with an open count of murder in the Feb. 28 death of A'Laina Brown at the girl's home in Muskegon Township.

The Associated Press isn't naming him because of his age.

The Muskegon Chronicle says the Muskegon Heights teen told police he shoved A'Laina, kicked her hard and struck her head. An autopsy says she had many external injuries and severe internal injuries and died of blunt force trauma.

Authorities have filed a neglect complaint against Octavia Jones for being absent when her daughter was attacked. They're also seeking to take her 7-year-old son from her.
