12-Year-Old Runaway From Canada Found On Tunnel Bus In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - A 12-year-old Canadian girl who ran away from home and hopped on a bus has been reunited with her family after trying to cross the border into Detroit.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection said the girl was found on Sunday during an inspection of the Tunnel Bus, a cross-border commuter service through the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel.

Agents questioned the girl, who was traveling alone without any documents, and determined she was a possible runaway -- something that was confirmed after coordinating with police in Windsor.

"Working together during incidents such as this shows how local and federal agencies are able to coordinate efforts to locate runaways," said David Beculheimer, Acting Port Director, said in a statement.

The girl has since been reunited with her mother in Canada.
