12-Year-Old Girl Dies After Being Struck By Vehicle In Roseville

ROSEVILLE (WWJ) -- A 12-year-old Detroit girl has died after being struck by a vehicle in Roseville on Friday.

Police say girl was with her mother and cousin when she was hit while crossing the northbound lanes of Gratiot near Glendale St. when a Ford Fusion traveling north on Gratiot in the far left lane struck the girl. The others were uninjured.

The girl was transported to a hospital with undisclosed injuries. The driver of the vehicle -- a 32-year-old man from Rochester Hills -- stopped and cooperated with the investigation. Police do not believe alcohol played a role in the accident.

The groupd had been shopping at the Eastgate Shopping Center and were walking to a family member's house in Roseville.

At the time of the incident, the roadway was wet and it was raining. Police say that the weather conditions may have played a part in the incident.

The incident caused northbound Gratiot to shut down for a prolonged period of time.
