100 Gallons Of Diesel Fuel Spill Across I-94 After Semi-Truck Goes Airborne, Crashes

ROMULUS (WWJ) - Authorities are dealing with a HAZMAT situation on I-94 following an accident that sent a semi-truck flying through the air.

The accident happened around 6:15 a.m. Friday on I-94 near Merriman Road in Romulus.

According to Michigan State Police, a semi-truck was traveling in the freeway's westbound lanes when the driver apparently lost control. Police say the semi-truck drove across the median and went airborne before landing upright, resulting in damage to the truck's fuel tanks.

Approximately 100 gallons of diesel fuel spilled onto the westbound lanes of I-94, according to police. The roadway will be partially closed until Romulus Fire Department manages the spill.

No injuries were reported.
