100 East Side Detroit Homes Lose Service Due To Big Water Main Break

DETROIT (WWJ) - While crews in Detroit are working to repair a 16-inch water main break on Tuesday, water service had been shut off to around 100 east side homes.

Linda Clark with the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department said freezing and thawing was likely to blame for the issue on Warren Ave. near East Water Dr.

The break happened at around 3 p.m.

Clark said the issue was expected to be fixed within a few hours and water service would be restored at that time.

"I have not heard that there are any obstacles that will prevent them from repairing the water main break today," Clark said. "So to my knowledge we are looking at about 8 p.m. this evening."

Clark said there is no boil water advisory in effect and that, at least at this point, there is no reason to believe that water quality in the area is affected.

Customers who wish to report any issues can use the "Improve Detroit" app.
