10 Years In Prison For Man In U.P. Fatal Homecoming Crash

CHARLEVOIX, Mich. (AP) - A drunken driver has been sentenced to at least 10 years in prison in the death of an Upper Peninsula teenager who played in his school's football game and was killed while returning home from the homecoming dance.

Darrell Lovegrove was sentenced Monday for involuntary manslaughter. The crash occurred a year ago in Mackinac County, but the trial was moved to Charlevoix.

Mitchell Snyder was a senior at LaSalle High School in St. Ignace. The 17-year-old was on his way home from a dance when he was killed in a head-on crash. Lovegrove's blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit.

He'll be eligible for parole after 10 years in prison.

Snyder played three sports at LaSalle High. The football team was undefeated when he was killed.
