10-Year-Old Boy Dies After SUV Driven By 14-Year-Old Friend Crashes

RAVENNA TWP., Mich. (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say a 10-year-old boy has died after an SUV driven by his 14-year-old friend went off a road in western Michigan and crashed.

Muskegon County Sheriff Dean Roesler said Jeffrey Jennings was pronounced dead at the scene of the Thursday night crash in Ravenna Township and the 14-year-old was taken to a hospital in serious condition.

The older boy apparently lost control of the vehicle on a dirt road while coming out of a sharp turn, according to police.

Roesler told The Muskegon Chronicle that the SUV was "almost destroyed beyond recognition."

It wasn't immediately known how the children got access to the SUV. Roesler said the 14-year-old is expected to face charges.

Names weren't immediately released.
