1-Year-Old Boy In Critical Condition After Falling Into Backyard Pond

ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - Police say a 1-year-old boy remains in critical condition after he fell into a fish pond while playing in his backyard.

The incident happened around 5 p.m. Thursday at a home in the 29000 block of Park, near 12 Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue in Roseville.

According to police, the boy was playing in the backyard, not far from his father, when he apparently fell into the pond.

The father told police he had turned away for just a moment before discovering his son in the water, which is about a foot deep. Police said the child may have been in the water for about one or two minutes.

The boy was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he remained in critical condition Friday morning.

Police said the incident is being treated as an accident.
