1 Of 2 Burglary Suspects Dead After Police Standoff

TAYLORSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Indiana State Police say a Michigan man killed himself after a nearly four-hour standoff with officers at a motel.

Police say negotiators had been talking with 44-year-old Richard Morris of Waterford, Mich., before officers heard a gunshot Monday morning from inside a motel room.

The standoff was at a Red Roof Inn near an Interstate 65 interchange at the central Indiana town of Taylorsville.

State police Sgt. Noel Houze says Morris' 26-year-old stepson was wanted on an armed robbery warrant and surrendered without incident soon after officers made contact with the men about 5 a.m.

Houze says police were told the men were possibly in the area and a clerk identified one man's photo as someone who checked in Sunday night at the motel about 30 miles south of Indianapolis.
