Semi Truck Driver Killed After Hitting Work Crew On I-275

CANTON (WWJ) - Police confirm that the driver of a semi truck is dead after striking a work crew along I-275 in Canton Township.

Michigan State Police Sgt. Mike Shaw say it happened around 2 p.m. Thursday on the southbound side of the freeway at Michigan Ave.

Shaw said he didn't have any information about any additional injuries, and details about the victim were not immediately released.

Along with state troopers, the Canton Fire Department was on the scene assisting.

WWJ's Lorna Stevens said the freeway is shut down at Michigan Ave., Exit 22, and it may be "a lengthy closure." Police seconded that, saying motorists should expect traffic delays in that area through the afternoon rush.

Traffic is stopped before Palmer. Stevens suggests Haggerty Road to get around it.
