1 Killed, 5 Injured in Shooting Near Chicago University

CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago police are investigating a shooting near the University of Illinois-Chicago campus that left one woman dead, a teenager critically injured and four others hurt.

Police say someone opened fire from a vehicle on a party in University Village at about 4:45 a.m. Monday.

Police say the woman whose name hasn't been released was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say the teenager was shot several times in the head and paramedics, believing he was dead, covered him with a sheet. Soon after, witnesses saw the teen moving and notified paramedics. Police describe his injuries as "catastrophic."

Police say no arrests have been made in what they suspect was a gang-related shooting.

During the hot Chicago weekend, nine people were killed and more than 50 were injured in shootings.
