1 Killed, 3 Hurt In M-14 Accident
SALEM TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - One person was killed and three were injured in an accident shutting down M-14 Tuesday afternoon.
Washtenaw County Sheriff's spokesperson Derrick Jackson said it started when one driver lost control and veered head-on into oncoming traffic.
"We actually had a vehicle that was headed eastbound on M-14, crossed over and struck two other vehicles," he said, adding that he considered it a "pretty significant accident."
Joyce Williams with Huron Valley Ambulance said one driver died at the scene, one person was taken by EMS to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in unstable condition, and two people were taken to University of Michigan Hospital in stable condition.
No additional information about the victims was immediately released.
At 5 p.m., the freeway remained closed in both directions at the Gotfredson Road overpass, in Salem Township near Plymouth.
It's not clear at this time what caused driver to lose control or how long the freeway would be shut down. Jackson said sheriff's officials were on the scene investigating.
