1 killed, 1 critically injured in Monroe carjacking; suspects arrested in Ohio

Family heartbroken after father of 2 killed during carjacking in Monroe.

MONROE, Mich. (CBS DETROIT) - One person is dead and another is in critical condition following a carjacking in Monroe Saturday. 

Monroe police responded to a carjacking in progress at the Highlander Market 1030 East Front Street at 3:37 p.m. Saturday. When police arrived, they found two victims. 

One victim, a 31-year-old Monroe man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, a 34-year-old man, was taken to an area hospital for life-threatening injuries.

According to police, the suspects robbed the Highlander Market for an undisclosed amount of money. Upon exiting the market, the suspects ordered the occupants of a Ford F-150 to get out of their vehicle. The suspects shot at both occupants and at a witness who was standing near the truck. The witness was not struck.

The two suspects left in a stolen blue Ford F-150 with a Michigan license plate number EML1504. The suspects were later arrested in Ohio Saturday evening, with one of the suspects, a 29-year-old Monroe man, suffering a gunshot wound after exchanging fire with officers. He was transported to an area hospital for serious injuries. 

A second suspect, a 44-year-old Ann Arbor man, is lodged in the Hancock County Jail in Ohio.
