1 Dead After 2 Vehicles Strike Broken Down DDOT Bus On I-94

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Michigan State Police are piecing together what happened early Saturday morning when a broken down DDOT bus was struck by two separate vehicles on I-94 in Detroit.

At around 6:30 a.m., a pick up truck hit the rear of the DDOT bus which was stopped in the left lane on I-94 near Cadieux. Moments later, a van struck both the bus and the truck.

The driver of the truck, a 36-year-old Port Huron man, was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the van, a 69-year-old Westland man, received critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he underwent surgery.

The bus was empty at the time of the crash and the bus driver was uninjured. The freeway was closed several hours for the investigation of the crash.

Alcohol was not a factor with the DDOT driver and it is unknown as far as the other drivers. The investigation continues by Michigan State Police.
