1 Dead, 1 Arrested After Shooting Outside Inkster Apartments

INKSTER (WWJ) - One man is dead and another is in custody after a fight and a shooting in Inkster.

It began just before 4 p.m. Thursday under a carport outside of an apartment building in the area of Bert Lane and Cherry Hill.

"There was two individuals involved in an altercation," said Michigan State Police First Lt. Mike Shaw. "One of the individuals was behind the wheel of a black in color Kia, attempted to drive away from the altercation. When the other individual, male individual, opened fire on the vehicle — striking the vehicle several times, and also the driver."

Shaw said the driver lost control of the car and crashed into a house. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

There were people inside the house at the time of the crash, Shaw said, but no one was hurt.

The alleged shooter fled on foot and was arrested.

"He's currently at the Inkster Police Department being interviewed," Shaw said, shortly after at 5 p.m. Thursday. "We did recover a handgun from the scene as well. Right now we're in the process of gathering evidence, processing the scene."

Shaw said investigators do not believe there are any additional suspects at large, adding that there is no danger to the public in the area.

No names were immediately released.
