Man Arrested At Detroit Metro Airport Trying To Catch Up With Departing Flight

ROMULUS (WWJ) - A man was arrested at Detroit Metro Airport when he tried on foot to catch up with his departing plane.

Airport spokeswoman Erica Donerson said the security breach happened at around 9 a.m. Wednesday at the North Terminal.

"As of now it appears a customer missed his flight and thought he could catch his plane by leaving the North Terminal," Donerson said."So he managed to momentarily accessed the restricted ramp area through an emergency exit, but was quickly apprehended and taken into custody."

"I don't have any real details about if the plane was still at the gate or if the plane had left the gate, but...yeah," she added. "It appears he thought he could somehow catch his flight."

Donerson said security procedures all went as planned and, with the quick arrest, there was no lockdown at the airport or fight disruptions for other travelers.

An investigation by Metro Airport Police continues.

It was not immediately unclear what charges, if any, the unidentified late passenger may face.  His name has not been released.
