Bilingual Yoga Class Encourages Spanish Speaking Members

DENVER (CBS4)- From chair pose to downward facing dog, yogis are reaching a new level of Namaste with bilingual Spanish/English yoga classes at Flex studio in Five Points.

Flex studio owners are trying to offer more inclusive, affordable yoga classes to people of all cultures.

For years Peruvian native Linda Tarazona searched for Spanish-speaking yoga classes in Denver. She says Flex is the only studio offering native Spanish speakers this learning environment in which she feels comfortable. She no longer worries about the language barrier.

Flex co-owner Christy Brown wants to blur cultural boundaries.

She says she wants to "blow a part that barrier that separates the Hispanic community" from yoga.

Brown offers affordable yoga classes in both Spanish and English in hopes of making "yoga and fitness more accessible to everyone."

"Come on, get in here. We want you a part of our community!" said Brown.

CBS4's Britt Moreno practices a little yoga and speaks Spanish, so she tried out the class. She said those who practice yoga regularly can follow the class fairly easily whether you speak Spanish or not. If you speak Spanish, this class certainly opens a lot doors!

Britt Moreno anchors the CBS4 morning and noon newscasts and is the Wednesday's Child reporter. She loves hearing from viewers. Connect with her on Facebook or Twitter @brittmorenotv.
