Xcel Urges Customers To Remove Snow From Meters

DENVER (AP) - Xcel Energy is asking its customers in Colorado's mountains to check their gas meters for damage that can be caused by fluctuating temperatures this spring.

Energy company representatives say customers should gently remove snow or ice from the meters and the rooflines above the meters.

Buried or iced-over meters can prevent the regulator vent from working properly. That can reduce the flow of gas or increase the pressure in gas lines to dangerous levels.

Snow and ice falling from roofs or building overhangs also can damage meters, as can water that freezes overnight.
